Props to the Red River

By CheapReveal | June 1, 2007

Alright so my last post was a little angry, I realize that, but sometimes it just needs to be done. This post will be about nice things and nice people. See people are nice, and almost always put smiles on my face, corporations are mean and ugly and smelly so sometimes I have to complain about them.

First on the list of nice things is Bill Roberts from Long Beach California. I stumbled acrosss his band’s myspace, however you stumble across people’s myspace pages… some crazy tangled web I’m sure. But I couldn’t find anything about this homie on the internet anywhere I looked, it’s like he didn’t exist. So, I e-mailed him asking where I could buy a cd and/or hear more of his delightful indie-folk-quirk tunes. To my surprise he e-mailed me almost immediately asking for my address and said that he would send over some of his music.

The Red River

A week later, and the music has arrived. I just got the cds literally a day ago, so I haven’t made too many judgements but for the most part I LOVE IT. The songs have an eclectic mix of instruments from piano to guitar to melodica to what sounds like a symphony of toy instruments. Now this is great and all, and I’m totally down with experiemting with crazy intruments, but it is his voice that will get you. It is strangely confessional. Like if your best friend, whom you’ve known all your life but never heard sing before, all of a sudden sat you down and played you this fantastic song that blew your nuts off.

I will post a few songs here that are not featured on his myspace page, but honestly if you really like them, just e-mail (songsredriver@yahoo.com) mr. Roberts and tell him you really like his music, I’m sure he’ll be extremely grateful and will probably end up sending a cd.

As of 10AM tomorrow morning I will be in Germany so hopefully that means my next post will also be in German (I will have somehow picked up the language in a day after 20 years of never learning a word, just like the way we expect immigrant children to learn english through our school system’s sub-par ESL programs). Check my pictures on the sidebar here and hopefully I’ll be able to upload some cool ones.
